When is a transaction paid or declined?
Whether we return or pay the item is discretionary and depends on several factors, including the amount of the item, the type of transaction, and the past activity in your account. We do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction.
Please refer to the Personal Banking Disclosure and Agreement or Business Banking Disclosure and Agreement, Debit Card/ATM Overdraft coverage as applicable, fee schedule, and your account product disclosures for details about how we pay overdrafts.
For Personal accounts:
If you opted in to Debit Card/ATM Overdraft coverage for everyday debit card purchases and ATM transactions, you authorize us to pay ATM transactions and/or purchases with Debit Cards. We reserve the right to pay the transaction at our discretion. A fee of $34 will be assessed per overdraft transaction if we decide to pay the transaction at an ATM or a payment with your Debit Card against insufficient or non-available funds. This fee applies only if you authorize the service.
If you did not opt-in to Debit Card/ATM Overdraft coverage for everyday debit card purchases and ATM transactions, transactions will be declined, and no fee will be charged. This excludes pre-authorized ACH debit/auto-debit transactions, where standard overdraft fees apply.
For checks/ACH, there is no opt-in to overdraft coverage. Whether we return or pay the item is at the bank’s discretion.
